In a widely anticipated development, IndiGo Airlines is rolling out its first international service from Coimbatore, connecting the South Indian city to Abu Dhabi starting August 10. This is Coimbatore International Airport’s third international flight destination, giving globetrotters another reason to cheer.
As part of this new scheduling, IndiGo will operate non-stop weekly flights on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, adding an exhilarating dimension to the airline’s array of services from Coimbatore. Based on the booking page of IndiGo, the outbound flight (6E1498) from Abu Dhabi to Coimbatore is slated to leave the UAE’s capital at 00:40 hours, with an arrival time of 06:25 hours in Coimbatore.
The return flight (6E 1497) is planned to head out from Coimbatore at 07:40 hours, making its way to Abu Dhabi by 10:00 hours.
The commencement of IndiGo’s service offers the Coimbatore airport a second direct line of access to the UAE, complementing the existing Air Arabia route to Sharjah. Another existing route links Coimbatore directly with Singapore, operated by Scoot.
According to J. Sathish, the Director of Kongu Global Forum (KGF) – a conglomerate of business and industrial leaders from Tamil Nadu’s western districts, this leap in airline connectivity has been the product of the sustained efforts of various associations in western Tamil Nadu. Commendable strides have been made in advocating the cause to government authorities, airlines, and airports, resulting in this positive outcome.
Sathish informs that associations are liaising with relevant authorities in Abu Dhabi to streamline processes for transit visas, baggage services, and various amenities benefitting passengers travelling beyond, particularly towards destinations like the US and Europe. Efforts are also in the offing to persuade FlyDubai to introduce a direct flight between Dubai and Coimbatore.
