Today, authorities announced the commencement of the rehabilitation project for the North Runway at Zayed International Airport. This initiative is a part of the Building Better Airports campaign, as detailed in a recent post on X.
The work will continue under the General Civil Aviation Authority’s (GCAA) guidance, until the project is ready for final approval and operational commencement.
The construction on the runway is anticipated not to disrupt flight operations since major airlines have not issued any warnings regarding possible delays.
Formerly known as Abu Dhabi International Airport, Zayed International Airport was officially renamed on February 9 in honor of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. This change was marked during the official opening ceremony of the new Terminal A, as announced by the Abu Dhabi Government Media Office. The state-of-the-art terminal commenced operations on November 1.
Zayed International Airport is the hub of Etihad Airways – the second flag carrier of UAE. It operates more than 1,000 flights per week to over 120 passenger and cargo destinations in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia, and North America.
It’s worth noting that runway renovations and regular maintenance work are a critical part of airport operation safety standards worldwide. They ensure smooth operations at airports and facilitate an enhanced passenger experience.
